Writing
Write and edit your manuscript directly in Sappar Studio's built-in editor — no need to switch between apps.
The Editor
Sappar Studio includes a full-featured writing environment designed for long-form prose. You can write your entire book inside Sappar, or import a manuscript and continue editing it here. The editor sits alongside the live typeset preview, so you see exactly how your words will appear on the printed page as you write.
Working with Text
The editor supports everything you'd expect from a writing tool:
- Bold, italic, and other inline formatting
- Chapter titles and section headings
- Block quotes and epigraphs
- Footnotes and endnotes
- Scene breaks (see Scene Breaks)
Use standard keyboard shortcuts — Cmd+B for bold, Cmd+I for italic — or the formatting toolbar at the top of the editor.
Chapters and Structure
Your book's structure is managed through the sidebar on the left. Each chapter appears as a separate entry. You can:
- Add new chapters with the + button
- Reorder chapters by dragging them in the sidebar
- Rename chapters by double-clicking the title
- Add front matter (title page, copyright, dedication) and back matter (acknowledgments, about the author)
Writing and Formatting Together
Unlike tools that separate writing from formatting, Sappar lets you do both in one place. As you type, the preview panel updates in real time, showing your words typeset with your chosen theme, fonts, margins, and spacing. This means you can make creative decisions — like adjusting chapter openings or trying a different font — without leaving your manuscript.
You don't have to format as you write. Many authors prefer to draft first and apply themes later. Sappar supports both workflows equally well.
Find and Replace
Use Cmd+F to search within the current chapter, or Cmd+Shift+F to search across your entire manuscript. Find and Replace supports case-sensitive matching and whole-word search.
Autosave
Sappar automatically saves your work as you write. There's no save button — your changes are preserved continuously. You can also use Cmd+Z to undo changes within a session.
